he Bardstown Bourbon Company 2026 Discovery marks a major shift for the brand's highly acclaimed blending program. Moving away from sequential numbering (following Discovery Series #13), the company has transitioned to a yearly naming format.
Released nationwide on August 21, 2026, this limited-edition release is bottled at 112.8 proof (56.4% ABV) and features commissioned artwork by Louisville artist Margaret Archambault on a newly designed vertical-label package.
The Blend Breakdown
True to the Discovery series' ethos, this expression showcases the art of blending mature components from multiple distilleries:
- 55% Indiana Bourbon (10-Year): Distilled by MGP with a mash bill of 75% Corn, 21% Rye, and 4% Malted Barley.
- 25% Kentucky Bourbon (11-Year): Distilled by Barton 1792 with a mash bill of 74% Corn, 18% Rye, and 8% Malted Barley.
- 20% Kentucky Bourbon (7-Year): Distilled by Green River with a mash bill of 74% Corn, 16% Rye, and 10% Malted Barley.
Garryana Oak Finishing Process
What sets the 2026 edition apart from typical Discovery blends is its finishing process. The fully blended bourbon was rested for four summer months in rare, hand-harvested Pacific Northwest Garryana Oak (Oregon White Oak) barrels.
These custom barrels were coopered by Oregon Barrel Works, where the dense, open-air-seasoned staves were subjected to a specialized three-hour hand toast. The natural density of Garryana oak slows down oxidation, while the summer heat maximized flavor extraction to pull unique baking spice complexities from the wood.
Flavor Profile & Tasting Notes
The Garryana oak finish heavily influences the whiskey, yielding a profile rich in baking spices and dark sugars:
- Nose: Toasted oak, campfire-like smokiness, marshmallow, butterscotch, raisins, and maple.
- Palate: Baked apple cobbler, dark cherry, cinnamon bark, nutmeg, cocoa nibs, and smoked tobacco.
- Finish: Long, warming, and spicy, leaning into a dry oak influence and lingering holiday baking spices
