Every drop of Blackwood whiskey is a reflection of patience, precision, and purpose.  Their products show what happens when you refuse to cut corners and instead let the whiskey — and the wood — do the talking.

Here's what makes our BAWS Blackwood Toasted Bourbon pick so special. Our barrel-strength single-barrel of Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey was re-barreled into a new custom toasted barrel from Kelvin Cooperage. But it's more than that. Blackwood isn't batching and finishing. They're re-barreling every 8-year-old bourbon barrel 1:1 in those new toasted barrels from Kelvin.

That means that instead of filling these barrels to the typical 53 gallons, they fill them based on the original yield in that 8-year-old barrel. That in turn means that they are working with volumes that are often anywhere from only half or two-thirds full. This creates incredible interaction between the whiskey and the freshly caramelized wood sugars in the new toasted barrels. More contact means deeper flavor development, richer layers, and a finish that's anything but ordinary.

Toasted Barrel Program features:

• Medium Toast, No Char barrels for maximum caramel and vanilla expression.
• Char #4 with Medium Toast Heads for bold depth and structured sweetness.

Every small batch and single barrel is carefully built using these profiles, pulling the best characteristics from each to create a whiskey that’s both lush and deeply nuanced.

Bourbon Side:

• Base whiskey: 8-year-old Kentucky bourbon.
• Highlighting rich caramelization from Medium Toast barrels and the powerful backbone of Char #4.

• Every barrel is finished one-to-one — no shortcuts, no blending down.
• Each barrel’s smaller fill level maximizes wood interaction and flavor concentration.
• We use the barrels once to preserve the purity and integrity of the flavor, then send them back to Kelvin to carry on in the whiskey world as finishing barrels in other markets.
• This approach allows the whiskey’s natural character to shine, elevated through the thoughtful finishing process rather than masked by it.
