The Cask Composition
While Glenmorangie is famous for finishing whisky in wine, sherry, or port casks, the Triple Cask Reserve blends spirits matured independently in three distinct wood types:
- Ex-Bourbon Barrels: Providing the classic, smooth foundation of vanilla and orchard fruit sweetness.
- New Charred American Oak: Adding structural wood tannins, deeper richness, and baking spices like cinnamon and nutmeg.
- Ex-Rye Whiskey Casks: A highly unusual choice in the Scotch industry, these inject a unique layer of savory depth, herbal peppermint hints, and a subtle black pepper tingle.
Tasting Profile
- Aroma: Highly aromatic and luscious, leading with ripe plums, pears, creamy vanilla, candied orange peel, and floral honeysuckle.
- Palate: Creamy and viscous in texture. It opens with a burst of crème brûlée, fudge, cherry chocolate, and honeyed pear before moving into spicy accents of clove, sweet chili, and a faint rye-driven mintiness.
