Rare Character Brook Hill 15 Year Old Straight Rye Whiskey is a highly allocated, ultra-premium single barrel rye. Sourced and bottled by the Rare Character Whiskey Company, it is part of their top-tier revival program honoring a historic pre-Prohibition black-label brand originally created by Joseph L. Friedman.
Because Brook Hill releases are strictly single barrel expressions, profiles vary slightly depending on the exact cask, state release, and proof.

Key Characteristics & Barrel Variations
  • Uncut & Unfiltered: Every barrel is bottled at natural cask strength without chill-filtration, allowing the full depth of the hyper-aged distillate to remain intact.
  • Proof Variance: Proof levels differ widely by cask. For example, the well-known "Music City" 15-year rye barrel is bottled at 115.5 proof, while other 15-year single barrels have crossed into higher thresholds like 130.13 proof ("Blahzay") or 138.20 proof ("Sunshine").
  • Distinct Profiles: Unlike many younger ryes that carry bright, grassy undertones, a 15-year warehouse maturation in new charred American oak pushes the liquid into a deeply dark, complex, and almost "dusty" territory.
Tasting Profile
  • Nose: Deeply aromatic with notes of dense pumpernickel bread, antique polished oak, leather, candied citrus peel, and a distinct layer of warm baking spice.
  • Palate: Intense, heavy, and visceral. It features massive waves of oak tannin, dark honey, rich molasses, sharp black pepper, clove, and barrel char. Some barrels walk an interesting line where the heavy wood gives it a sweeter, bourbon-like profile up front before the bold rye grain asserts itself.
  • Finish: Long, bone-dry, and highly contemplative. Heat lingers alongside crushed mint, seasoned wood, and dark chocolate spice
