Redwood Empire "The Hyperion" Blend of Straight Whiskies is a limited-edition, highly ambitious expression launched in August 2026. As the inaugural release (Batch 001) of a new annual series, it marks the brand's most experimental project yet: a completely unique blend of four distinct whiskey styles that will change every year and never be repeated.
Named after Hyperion, a 381-foot coastal redwood in Redwood National Park recognized as the world's tallest living tree, the whiskey is crafted by Master Distiller Jeff Duckhorn and Master Blender Lauren Patz. It is bottled unfiltered at 110 proof (55% ABV).
The Blend Composition
To build this complex expression, Redwood Empire pulled a total of 79 mature barrels across more than 10 different mash bills. The component stocks are aged between 7 and 14 years and sourced from four major whiskey-producing states: California, Kentucky, Indiana, and Tennessee.
The exact breakdown of the final blend consists of:
- 32% Straight Bourbon Whiskey (bringing classic sweetness and rich corn/oak notes)
- 30% Straight Rye Whiskey (adding structured baking spice and pepper)
- 25% Straight Wheat Whiskey (softening the body with creamy, honeyed texture)
- 13% American Single Malt Whiskey (distilled entirely grain-to-glass by Redwood Empire in California, contributing toasted malt and depth)
Official Tasting Notes
The interplay of the four grains yields a deeply layered flavor profile quite different from Redwood Empire's standard core lineup:
- Nose: California walnut, roasted apricots, dried orchard fruit, toasted oak, and warm baking spices.
- Palate: Full-bodied and viscous with pomegranate molasses, stone fruits, rich cream, tart cherry, vanilla, and layered spice.
- Finish: Long and complex, featuring lingering oak, toffee, toasted malt, dark fruit, and black tea
