The GlenDronach Ode to the Valley is a premium, non-age-statement (NAS) Highland single malt Scotch whisky. It was launched as part of the distillery's Master’s Anthology series, a collection curated by Master Blender Dr. Rachel Barrie to celebrate the landscape and history surrounding the distillery in the Valley of Forgue.
Overview & Cask Maturing
Unlike The GlenDronach's core range, which relies almost strictly on Spanish Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, Ode to the Valley introduces an innovative dual-maturation twist:
- Cask Type: A combination of the distillery's signature Sherry casks and fine Ruby Port casks sourced from Portugal's Douro Valley.
- ABV: Bottled at 46.2% ABV.
- Presentation: Natural color and non-chill filtered.
Tasting Notes
The inclusion of Ruby Port casks leans heavily into a brighter, more vibrant red-fruit profile than traditional sherried GlenDronach releases.
- Nose: Highly aromatic with wild strawberries, raspberry compote, and bright orchard fruits layered over a base of warm spices, toasted oak, and malted barley.
- Palate: Medium-bodied and syrupy. It leads with deep flavors of cooked berries, blackberries, and damson plums, transitioning into darker sweetness like honey, caramel, marzipan, and freshly baked gingerbread.
- Finish: Long and warming with lingering red fruit, a distinct dry oak bite, and a touch of milk chocolate
