After the amazing reception our first Westward barrel selection received, I knew we had to source another barrel for our introduction to Bondedbottleshop.com. The initial idea was a small-batch whiskey when I contacted Jonathan Harris, Single Barrel Manager and Head of Collaborations. He responded with a text that excited me: “Give me some time; I think we can do something even more special.” The something special was a Solera Cask sourced from Miles Munroe’s twenty-one-barrel solera system, which produces Milestone every year. This barrel will be the only Solera Cask released from Westward in the entire country for 2025—something very special indeed!

I packed my wife and kids up that weekend for a road trip to the Westward barrel house to sample the cask. After a few pours and a tour of the 7,100 resting casks, Jonathan poured me a sample alongside Milestone 2024. Both whiskeys are exquisite, but my wife and I both preferred the single cask. Milestone explores spice beautifully, whereas our barrel selection starts with stewed pear and hints of sweet apple on the front and mid-palate, which then shifts to sweet tobacco and cigar box with smooth baking spices on the finish. It is a complex blend of sweet fruit and rich, savory notes. This whiskey will wow aficionados with layered complexity while also being gentle enough for someone who may be new to whiskey or prefers lower proof.

This cask holds some of the oldest Westward whiskey and also showcases the masterful Solera blending of Westward Master Distiller Miles Munroe. I hope you savor it with friends and family, as we have!
